Shannon and Austin | The Mini-Movie

So, getting back into the blogging swing of things. I have so much to share. Including things I never had the opportunity to share during the height of my portrait season. This video by my fabulous video team is an example of that. It is one of my favorite videos from 2010. Hope you enjoy.

Mini-Movie: Kathy and Charlie

I haven’t had any time to blog. Yes, I don’t always get the opportunity to blog. I wish I could blog everything and everyone I shoot. I wish I could blog every session the day after I shoot the images. But, it’s not realistic. And it’s definitely not a priority. At all. It’s important to me, but it’s not necessary by any means.

Blogging is the little bonus that tells the world I’m still alive and actively shooting. It tells the world that I am passionately in love with what I do. It gives me the opportunity to show new work. Personal, meaningful. The stuff that I love. The stuff that gets me excited at the end of every day. But don’t be fooled. While I beyond…BEYOND LOVE what I do; it is also the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’ve worked the hardest I’ve ever worked. I put in more hours on a weekly basis than anyone can ever imagine. Especially because I’m just a photographer, right? And most think it’s as simple as snapping pictures. Only, it isn’t. I’m a party of one. There isn’t anyone else to fall back on. It’s. Just. Me. Wearing, like, 7 different hats on an hourly basis.

So, if there are any future photographers out there reading this post, be warned. It’s work.
It.
Is.
Work.

But if you love it…really, really love it. It’s the best work. The. Best. And I’m totally addicted to it. In fact, in some ways, it has saved me from who I would be without the opportunity to do what I love. So, my apologies to all the images who’ve never had the opportunity to shine anywhere else but my heart and the homes of the people who own them. I’ve got nothing but love for you;)

(PS If you’re a photographer and you totally know where I’m coming from. Feel free to leave a comment and say “Hello”. It would be great to know I’m not alone.)

Now, before I post any images of this wedding… I have to share the mini-movie of Kathy & Charlie’s wedding. Shot and edited by Joe Centeno. The images are coming very soon. I can’t wait! More on their wedding later. Stay tuned…

Opening Up New Doors

Okay, it’s been a long while since I’ve posted on my poor, neglected blog. I’ve had a lot going on lately. Lots of images to process. Not to mention summer life as a work-at-home Mom can be a bit crazy. (Am I alone in that?) There’s always this huge balance between doing what you love and not letting that love burn out. It’s not always easy. But if you love what you do. If you’re almost psychotically addicted to what you do (like I am), you can’t help but always come back for more. You must always find a way somehow. Usually for me, it means making a change, doing something differently or purely for the love. Which explains why I’ve changed things so many times already in my short stint as a photographer. I can’t help myself. It’s how I’m built.  In fact, a week ago my daughter was watching Meet the Robinsons (which, by the way, brings me to tears every time) and that quote at the end explained it all.

“Around here, however,
we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward,
opening up new doors and doing new things…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
- Walt Disney

So this New Day girl has been carving a new path. Just changing because I’m completely curious what will happen if I do this or tweak that.  And now…I’m sitting on something new that I’m pretty excited about.

I have the opportunity to offer video service to my clients. Working exclusively with people who are working exclusively with me. And that is pretty darn cool. Details are coming soon and video samples are on their way, but I’m excited about what it can lead to. I hope you are, too.

So without further ado, a sample video…

Oh, and because I can’t leave you without an image.  Here is a shot of the two people who helped me shoot Rocio and Robby’s wedding and who are responsible for the video.

Yes, that’s all you get to see.
